Senior Back-End Developer - London

Cutting edge online video platform company are on the hunt for their next Python Developer, is that you? The successful Senior Back-End Developer will be integral part of an agile team, collaborating with highly skilled web developers, designers, middleware and Android/iOS developers to work on some exciting projects. You will be a hands-on senior engineer who has been at the sharp end of building solutions. You will have worked with servers using Python solutions for sometime and be confident in a range of approaches with this technology. As Senior Back-End Developer, your main responsibilities will include:
Role and Responsibilities
• Python development for our server product.
• Provide technical input to ongoing and upcoming work.
• Be able to agree an approach with other senior engineers, and then go and implement this with more junior developers, providing work of agreed quality incrementally.
• Enforce agreed standards, testing approaches, and performance engineering targets.
• Provide ad-hoc training and daily guidance to more junior staff.
• Providing benchmarks, tests and other assurance that the solutions are stable and scalable.
• Ensure that work is suitably documented and handover to other departments is carried out.
• Work with technical QA as one team to ensure the right level of quality and automated testing from day one of development.
• Carry out regular code-reviews, both with more junior engineers and with the senior developers.

• Extensive commercial experience of Python
• Solid understanding of architecture and design principles for delivering scalable web services.
• Experience of object oriented programming.
• Experience of test driven development approaches.
• Experience of SQL databases.
• Commercial experience in building web services.
• Strong problem solving skills and a good working knowledge of logic and mathematics.
• Hands-on experience of modern standards, when to use which one, and how to enforce it.
• Good knowledge of Linux (bash, general OS, and using in the cloud).
• Hands-on experience of using at least one automated deployment/configuration system.
• Strong team player with good written and verbal communication skills.
• At least one years’ experience of mentoring and providing technical management to others.
• Experience of at least two Python web frameworks – knowing when to use each one and why


• Experience of microservice architectures.
• Performance engineering and benchmarking experience.
Messaging and concurrency technologies.
• Experience of caching methodologies.
• Well versed in developing in an agile development environment.
• Experience of continuous integration and continuous deployment principles and tools.
