One of the largest publishing organisations in the world is looking for an experienced Platform Specialist to join their team based in Essex. The successful Platform Specialist will be working within the Platforms Team in Operational Infrastructure, the Platform Specialist (Windows Server) is a skilled Infrastructure Engineer, that whilst having broad Infrastructure skills has a specialism in Windows Server and can be the Technology owner of the Windows Server estate, including Active Directory and Group Policy.
Role and Responsibilities
As the Platform Specialist, your responsibilities include:
• As the technology owner, your responsibilities for capacity planning, product lifecycles, platform optimisation, development and documentation will fall under the remit of this role, including being the subject matter expert for the Change and Major Incident processes and an escalation point for other team members. The role holder will also own technical relationships with appropriate 3rd Parties and work with the Architecture Team and Security, DR & Backup functions to ensure that the systems are resilient, secure and recoverable.
Operational Infrastructure
• The team is responsible for both “keeping the lights on” and working with Project teams to deliver new and upgraded systems. You will also be taking escalations from the Service Desk the Infrastructure team identify and resolve issues and problems
Platforms Team
• The platforms Team within Infrastructure are responsible for Servers, Storage and Backups along with key Infrastructure Applications such as Server Operating Systems, Messaging & Collaboration tools and Virtualisation Platforms. Members of the team will have a broad knowledge across the technologies in the Platforms team and beyond, but will also retain a specialism developed in more detail.

Skill Set
Required Skills and Experience for the Platform Specialist:

• Background running environments of 300+ servers in an VMWare environment
• Ability to manage 3rd party vendors
• “can-do” personality
• Able to demonstrate flexibility and motivation, as well as excellent problem solving capability and team working
• Good working knowledge of VMWare, HP Server hardware, iSCSI, FC and FCoE storage platforms
• Understanding of support team working practices
• Excellent communication and analytical skills
• Solid understanding of LAN switching and IP, including spanning tree and QoS
• Good working knowledge of virtualisation technologies including VMWare
• Passion for continuous improvement
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Strong Active Directory design and management skills, including but not limited to Forests, Domains, Sites, DNS, DHCP, WSUS and Direct Access
• Microsoft Server & Active Directory Qualifications are essential
• Ability to work with others in a collaborative way
• Infrastructure related certifications would be beneficial
• Good working knowledge and hands-on experience of building and troubleshooting Windows Servers, both physical and Virtual by template
• Technical expert in a range of technologies, who is driven, able to work on their own and hit the ground running
• Good working knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems
• Strong understanding of ITIL and Prince2
• Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
• Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting complex systems
• Windows Server will also provide out of hours working and/or on-call support as required
