A global publishing company are looking for a talented and experienced Network Specialist to work with a variety of teams. As a Network Specialist working within the Networks Team in Operational Infrastructure, the Network Specialist you will be a skilled Infrastructure Engineer that whilst having broad Infrastructure skills has a specialism in Routing & Switching protocols & technologies and is the Technology owner of the LAN & WAN estate.
Role and Responsibilities
As the Network Specialist your responsibilities include:

• The team is responsible for both “keeping the lights on” and working with Project teams to deliver new and upgraded systems. Taking escalations from the Service Desk the Infrastructure team identify and resolve issues and problems.
• The networks team within Infrastructure are responsible for Routing, Switching, Firewalls, Perimeter security, and Telephony & Audio Visual technologies. Members of the team will have a broad knowledge across the technologies in the Networks team and beyond, but will also retain a specialism developed in more detail.
• As the technology owner, responsibility for capacity planning, product lifecycles, platform optimisation, development and documentation will fall under the remit of this role, including being the subject matter expert for the Change and Major Incident processes and an escalation point for other team members. The role holder will also own technical relationships with appropriate 3rd Parties and work with the Architecture Team and Security, DR & Backup functions to ensure that the systems are resilient, secure and recoverable.

Essential skills for the Network Specialist:

• Background running large multisite networks with 1000's of ports across several countries.

• Passion for continuous improvement
• Excellent communication and analytical skills.
• Understanding of support team working practices.
• Strong understanding of ITIL and Prince2 methodologies
• Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
• Ability to work with others in a collaborative way
• Strong Cisco skills, including IOS, Callmanager, and Nexus.
• Good working knowledge and hands-on experience of troubleshooting network routing and switching, specifically using Cisco Products, protocols in use include Ethernet, IP, MPLS, BGP, EIGRP, HSRP, MGCP, GRE, QoS.
• Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting complex systems.
• Able to demonstrate flexibility and motivation, as well as excellent problem solving capability and team working.
• Understanding of networking security appliances: PaloAlto firewalls, Cisco ASA firewalls, Cisco VPN concentrators, F5 FirePass SSL VPN, ActiveIdentity SecureID Server.
• Understanding of IPTelephony based on Callmanager and Zeacom.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Cisco certification to at least CCNP / CCDP standard.
