ETL Developer - London

One of the largest media organisations in the world is looking for an experienced ETL Developer to support their team. As the ETL Developer, you will have the opportunity to update and enhance the organisations ETL routines designed to transfer data into the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW). You will be an integral member of the BI development team currently tasked with delivering a new EDW to support the reporting and analysis needs.

As a key member of the BI team, you will have the chance to build relationships within technology and BI analysts during project delivery to ensure reporting requirements are delivered successfully from the EDW.

This is a hands-on ETL Developer role where developing, testing and documenting ETL routines will be required in addition to guiding and peer reviewing other developer code.

Role and Responsibilities
As the ETL Developer your day to day will consist of:

• Give guidance on overall data integration solutions in the BI landscape at Penguin Random House and provide recommendations
• Lead and drive continuous improvement of the data integration and BI platform
• Keep abreast of current technology and trends that may be of use/benefit to Penguin Random House

BI Programme specific deliverables and activities:

• Develop ETL routines utilising expert level SSIS skills.
• Create technical designs and functional specifications for ETL routines.
• Participate in supporting functional, integration and performance testing of ETL routines developed as part of the data integration solutions.
• Assist in design and data modelling efforts of Data Marts and Enterprise Data Warehouse.
• Provide leadership and guidance on good practice ETL development and design
• Work closely with BI analyst to create and evaluate business requirements to support delivery of effective application data integration solutions.
• Develop ETL standards and governance processes and ensures development adheres to these
• Peer review design and development of the BI team
• Support testing and defect resolution during project activities
• Develops documentation to support promotion of work between environments
• Adhere to internal standards of documentation (be they departmental or project specific)
• Work with Technology teams and other service providers to define and evaluate solution proposals for viability and appropriateness.
• Production of documentation to support service transition
• Provide 3rd level support for incident and problem management

Skill Set
The right ETL Developer should have:

• Minimum 5 + years working as an ETL developer or lead developer who has exposure in leading a group of BI developers
• Proven track record of leading design, build and support of data integration solutions which are robust and scalable
• Extensive experience of developing and supporting BI applications on SQL Server 2005/2008/2012.
• Data modelling skills in a large scale complex environment utilising ER Studio highly regarded
• Exposure to SAP BW and Netezza would be highly regarded
• A range of technical project experience, ideally with experience of delivering BI solutions for media and publishing organisations
• Knowledge of common methodologies for technical/software development projects such as Agile Scrum or Waterfall.
• Certified MSCE BI professional is highly regarded.
